Piperno

Piperno (ancient Privernum), is a town of the province of Rome in Lazio region, central Italy. It is 98 km southeast of Rome by rail. The population of the town in 1901 was 6,736. The town has a picturesque piazza, with a Gothic cathedral built in 1283. A Gothic palazzo pubblico and other Gothic churches exist in the town. Polygonal terrace walls of the pre-Roman period exist at various places in the vicinity. It was the birthplace of the canonist Reginald of Piperno.

Fossanova Abbey

Fossanova Abbey, earlier Fossa Nuova, is a Cistercian monastery in Italy, in the province of Latina, near the railway-station of Priverno, c. 100 kilometers south-east of Rome. It is the finest example of a Cistercian abbey, and of the Burgundian Early Gothic style, in Italy, and dates from the end of the 12th to the end of the 13th century. The church (1187-1208) is closely similar to that of Casamari and also of the great church at Citeaux.
