Sanzu River

The Sanzu River (三途の川 Sanzu-no-kawa), or River of Three Crossings, is a Japanese Buddhist tradition and religious belief similar to the River Styx. It is believed that on the way to the afterlife, the dead must cross the river, which is why a Japanese funeral includes placing six coins in the deceased's casket. The Sanzu River is popularly believed to be located in Mount Osore, a suitably desolate and remote region of northern Japan.

Tomioka, Gunma

Tomioka, Gunma is a city located in Gunma, Japan. As of April 1, 2011, the city had an estimated population of 52,677 (25,848 men and 26,829 women). The total area is 122.90 km². On April 1, 1888, Tomioka became a town. The city of Tomioka was created on April 1, 1954. On April 1, 1960, Nyuu Village was incorporated into Tomioka City. On March 27, 2006, it further merged with neighboring Myōgi Town to form the new city of Tomioka.

Annaka, Gunma

Annaka, Gunma is a city located in Gunma prefecture, Japan. As of March 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 63,584, with 23,575 households and a population density of 230.09 persons per km². The total area is 276.34 km². The city was founded on November 1, 1958. On March 18, 2006 the town of Matsuida, from Usui District, which was dissolved in the merger, was merged into Annaka.
