Toyoma Education Museum

Toyoma Education Museum exhibits the history of education in Japan since the Meiji period. It is housed in an old elementary school building of 1888 in Tome, Miyagi Prefecture. The U-shaped two-storey building around a courtyard, lined with balconies and with half-hexagons at the end of each wing, was designed by Kisaburo Yamazoe. It is representative of the western-inspired architecture of the Meiji period and in 1981 was designated an Important Cultural Property.

Izunuma-Uchinuma

are a pair of interconnected freshwater lakes in the alluvial plain of the Hasama River, a tributary of the Kitakami River in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. In 1967 the birdlife and habitat of the lakes were designated a Natural Monument. In 1985 an area of 559 hectares was designated a Ramsar Site. In 1996 the sound of the Izunuma-Uchinuma Greater White-fronted Goose was selected as one of the 100 Soundscapes of Japan by the Ministry of the Environment.

Wakayanagi, Miyagi

Wakayanagi, Miyagi was a town located in Kurihara District, Miyagi, Japan. On April 1, 2005, Wakayanagi was merged with the towns of Ichihasama, Kannari, Kurikoma, Semine, Shiwahime, Takashimizu, Tsukidate and Uguisuzawa, and the village of Hanayama, all from Kurihara District, to form the new city of Kurihara. In 2003, the town had an estimated population of 14,149 and a population density of 269.20 persons per km². The total area is 52.56 km².
