Karakuwa, Miyagi

Karakuwa, Miyagi was a town located in the extreme northeast of Miyagi Prefecture, bordering Kesennuma to the north-west and Rikuzentakata, part of Iwate Prefecture, to the north, and with Kesennuma Bay including Oshima island to the west, Hirota Bay to the north-east, and the Pacific Ocean to the south and east. On March 31, 2006, Karakuwa was merged into the neighboring city of Kesennuma and is no longer an independent municipality.

The Ice Aquarium

The Ice Aquarium is a tourist attraction in the north-eastern port of Kesennuma, Miyagi, Japan. It features approximately 450 marine creatures that were flash-frozen into blocks of ice after being caught by local fishermen. The attraction was established in 2002. It showcases more than 70 different species of sea creatures, including crab, squid and octopus, Due to the extreme cold temperature inside the Ice Aquarium, visitors are advised to stay for only five minutes.
