As of April 1, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 87,089, with 33,570 households and a population density of 1,292.70 inhabitants per square kilometre . The total area is 67.37 square kilometres . The city was founded on May 3, 1949. On January 1, 2006 the village of Minamikawara, from Kitasaitama District, was merged into Gyōda.

Ōizumi, Gunma
Ōizumi, Gunma is a town located in Ōra District, Gunma, Japan. As of September 1, 2007, the town had an estimated population of 41,098 and a density of 2292.14 persons per km². The total area is 17.93 km². In 1957, the towns of Ookawa-mura and Koizumi-machi merged, thus "Ooizumi-machi" was born. Ooizumi's name comes from the 'Oo' from Ookawa and 'izumi' from Koizumi. The Tokyo plant of Sanyo, which was previously the plant of the Nakajima Aircraft Company, is located in this town.
