Ventspils District

The Ventspils District was an administrative division of Latvia, located in the Courland region, in the country's west. The district consisted of 11 parishes - Ance, Jūrkalne, Pope, Puze, Targale, Ugale, Usma, Uzava, Varve, Ziras, Zlekas parish and Piltene town's rural territory. Districts were eliminated during the administrative-territorial reform in 2009.

Ventspils Castle

Ventspils Castle is located in Ventspils, Latvia. It is one of the oldest and most well-preserved Livonian Order castles remaining, in that it has retained its original layout since the 13th century. Through its 700 year history, it has been used as a fortress, residence, garrison, school, military base, and prison. In 1995, the castle was restored to its 19th-century appearance, and was converted into a museum.

Free port of Ventspils

Free Port of Ventspils is a seaport located on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea (57° 24' N, 21° 32' E), western part of Latvia. For the first time Port of Ventspils was mentioned in historical chronicles in 1263. 17th century for port of Ventspils was a period of a very rapid growth and dynamic development, where during the rule of Duke Jacob in the shipyards of Ventspils more than 135 ships were built and sold to European countries.
