Cheikh Mohammad is a village situated in the Lebanese Akkar District. Situated 400 metres above sea level, in between two mountains, it overlooks the Akkar plains and sea. Nahr al-Kabir al-Janoubi (Arabic for the southern great river, النهر الكبير الجنوبي) is a river in the Middle East flowing into the Mediterranean Sea. The river flows through the Homs Gap. The river forms the northern end of the border between modern day Lebanon and Syria. In antiquity the river was known as Eleutherus. (Eleutheros, Eleuteris) and is referred to as such in the apocryphal 1 Maccabees 11:7 and 12:30. In English, it is also known as the Nahr el-Kebir or simply as the Kebir.

Nahr al-Bared
Nahr al-Bared is a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon, 16 km from the city of Tripoli. Some 30,000 displaced Palestinians and their descendents live in and around the camp, which was named after the river that runs south of the camp. Under the terms of the 1969 Cairo Agreement, the Lebanese Army does not conventionally enter the Palestinian camps, and internal security is provided by Palestinian factions.
