Benito Juárez is one of the 81 municipalities of Guerrero, in south-western Mexico. The municipal seat lies at San Jerónimo de Juárez. The municipality covers an area of 284.9 km². As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 14,444. The municipality stands at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:17|11|N|100|30|W||| | |name= }}, on the Pacific coast between Acapulco and Zihuatanejo. It is drained by the Río Atoyac.

December 1911 Guerrero earthquake

The December 1911 Guerrero earthquake occurred on December 16 at 12:14 local time near the coast of Guerrero, Mexico along the Mexican subduction zone. The earthquake's energy was calculated using several different magnitude scales with an estimated moment magnitude of 7.6, and a surface wave magnitude of 7.8. Following the event, telegraphy reports came in from a broad area of Mexico. Cities from Guadalajara, Mérida, and Tapachula (near Guatemala) all reported the tremors.
