Cofre de Perote

Cofre de Perote, originally Naupa-Tecutépetl (from Nāuhpa-Tēuctēpetl in the Nahuatl language), is known also as Nauhcampatépetl. Both Nahuatl names mean something like 'Place of Four Mountain' or 'Mountain of the Lord of Four Places'. This extinct volcano is located in the Mexican state of Veracruz, at the point where the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt, home to all of Mexico's highest peaks, joins the Sierra Madre Oriental.

Perote, Veracruz

Perote is a city and municipality in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality of the same name, which borders on Las Vigas de Ramírez, Acajete, Xico and Tlalnelhuayocan, and the state of Puebla. It is on Federal Highway 140. Its climate is regular cold and dry with an annual average temperature of 12 Celsius. Perote's fortress of San Carlos once served as a prison. Guadalupe Victoria died there.

Xico, Veracruz

Xico is a city located in the central part of the state of Veracruz. It produces coffee, tropical fruit, wine, handicrafts, and other products. It is 25 km from state capital Xalapa. Every year in July, Xico has a very large Bullfighting event. In 2006, Veracruz Governor Fidel Herrera attended the event. 3 kilometres outside the town is Cascada de Texolo.

Las Vigas de Ramírez, Veracruz

Las Vigas de Ramírez is a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality of the same name. It is located 20 km from the state capital, Xalapa; it stands on the Mexico City to Veracruz railway and on Federal Highways 180 and 122. It was named after the teacher Rafael Ramírez, who died in Mexico. Major products are corn, coffee, fruits, rice.

San Carlos Fortress

The San Carlos Fortress is a fort in the city of Perote, in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is also known as the Fort of San Carlos, Perote Castle, the Castle of San Carlos, Perote Prison, San Carlos de Perote Fortress, and San Carlos de Perote Castle. The fortress was built from 1770 to 1776 by Manuel de Santisteban as a guard post and repository for treasure prior to shipment to Spain.
