Aalsum, Groningen
Aalsum is a small hamlet in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Zuidhorn, about 1.5 km west of Oldehove. The hamlet was located on a wierde, an artificial dwelling hill. The hill was partially excavated in the 20th century; a bow from the ninth century was found. Our Lady the Garden Enclosed
The Roman Catholic Hermitage of Our Lady, the Garden Enclosed is situated in the former parish church of Warfhuizen, a village in the extreme north of the Netherlands. It is the only Dutch hermitage currently inhabited by a hermit. The name draws upon the traditional epithet for the Virgin Mary ("Our Lady") of hortus conclusus or enclosed garden. The hermitage was founded in 2001 as the dwelling of a Roman Catholic consecrated hermit.
