Minginui

Minginui is a town in the Bay of Plenty Region in the North Island of New Zealand. The Whirinaki Forest Park is in the vicinity of the town. The Statistics New Zealand 2006 census gives a population for the area of 1464, a reduction of 300 since 1996. In 1978 it was the scene of a protest and confrontation between the local community and conservationists over native forest logging in the adjacent Whirinaki State Forest.

Wheao River

The Wheao River is a river of the Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand's North Island. An upper tributary of the Rangitaiki River, it flows predominantly north through the Kaingaroa Forest to reach the Rangitaiki south of Murupara.

Murupara

Murupara is a town located in the North Island of New Zealand. The town is situated in an isolated part of the Bay of Plenty region between the Kaingaroa Forest and Te Urewera National Park, on the banks of the Rangitaiki River, 65 kilometres southeast of Rotorua, along SH38 . Murupara is the terminus of the Murupara Branch railway. Its principal industries are all related to forestry.

Ruatahuna

The town of Ruatahuna is located in the northeast of New Zealand's North Island, 90 kilometres west of Gisborne, and 18 kilometres northwest of Lake Waikaremoana. It is situated on the unsealed part of SH38, from Wai-O-Tapu via Murupara to Wairoa. A small town in the upper reaches of the Whakatane River, Ruatahuna is in the remote country of The Ureweras, and is surrounded on three sides by Te Urewera National Park.

Galatea, New Zealand

Galatea is a settlement in the Whakatane district in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand. The forested hills and mountains of the Ikawhenua Range and in particular Mount Tawhiuau stand guard on the eastern flank of the Galatea Plains or Basin, an area surrounding the village. To the west, and over the Rangitaiki River stretch the 120,000 acres of the Kaingaroa Forest.
