Central Hawke's Bay District

Central Hawke's Bay District is a district located in the North Island of New Zealand. It covers an area of 3,327.92 square kilometres with a population of 13,350 (June 2012 estimate). It covers the area from Pukehou in the north to Takapau in the south, and from the western Ruahine Ranges to the Pacific coast in the east.

Waipukurau

Waipukurau, also known as Ypuk, is the largest town in the Central Hawke's Bay District on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located 50 kilometres southwest of Hastings on the banks of the Tukituki River. The town is close to the site of a Māori pa, from which it gets its name. The pa was situated on the town's main hill, named Pukekaihau. The name is said to mean water of pukerau, pukerau being a type of fungus.

Makaretu River

The Makaretu River is a river of the southern Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand's North Island. One of numerous roughly parallel rivers, it flows east from the slopes of the Ruahine Range north of Dannevirke, passing close to the township of Takapau before meeting the waters of the Tukituki River just to the west of Waipukurau. NOTE: There are also at least two rivers in New Zealand called "Makaretu Stream".

The Tukipo River is a river of the southwest Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows east from its origins in the Ruahine Range to reach the Tukituki River five kilometres west of Waipukurau
