Shag River (Waihemo)

Shag River (Waihemo) is located in Otago in the South Island of New Zealand. It rises in the Kakanui Range, flowing southeast for 50 kilometres before reaching the Pacific Ocean near the town of Palmerston. The Dunback Branch railway that operated from the 1880s to 1989 largely followed the route of the river from its junction with the Main South Line in Palmerston to its terminus in Dunback.

East Otago High School

Trotters Gorge

Trotters Gorge (sometimes rendered Trotter's Gorge) is a locality in the Otago Region, in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located 12 kilometres to the north of Palmerston, inland from State Highway 1. The gorge and the creek which runs through it (Trotters Creek, which runs to the Pacific Ocean near Katiki) were named for the family of early settler W. S. Trotter.

Katiki

Katiki is a small settlement in North Otago, New Zealand. It lies between the townships of Palmerston and Hampden on State Highway 1 at the northern end of Katiki Beach, close to the Moeraki Peninsula. The tip of the peninsula, Katiki Point, is the site of Katiki Point Lighthouse. The scenic reserve of Trotter's Gorge is located just inland of Katiki. There is uncertainty about the origin of the name, though it could have originally been Ka tiki ("The carved figures").
