Edendale, New Zealand

Edendale is a town in the Southland region of New Zealand's South Island. According to the 2001 New Zealand Census of Population and Dwellings, it has a population of 570 (comprising 300 males and 270 females), representing a rise of 0.5% or 3 people since the 1996 census. State Highway 1 passes through Edendale as it runs between Dacre and Mataura, and the township is situated on the Southland Plains just to the west of the Mataura River.

Te Tipua

Te Tipua is a locality in the eastern Southland Region of New Zealand's South Island. It is west of the nearest town, Mataura, and northeast of Southland's major centre, Invercargill. New Zealand State Highway 96 passes through Te Tipua as it runs between Waitane and its junction with State Highway 1 on the southern side of Mataura. The main economic activities in the area relate to agriculture. Te Tipua contains a small primary school that serves students from the surrounding area.

Mataura

Mataura is a town in the Southland region of the South Island of New Zealand. Mataura has a meat processing plant, and until 2000 it was the site of a large pulp and paper mill. Mataura is also the setting for Dunedin crime fiction author Vanda Symon's debut novel, Overkill.

Menzies College

Menzies College is a Year 7 to 13 school in the South Island town of Wyndham in Southland, New Zealand. The school was first established in 1971 on the former Wyndham District High School site. Previously the school was a Form 3 to 7 (Year 9 to 13) school. The majority of school buildings were built in the 1950s replacing buildings that were destroyed by fire.

Wyndham, New Zealand

Wyndham is a rural town of 550 people in the South Island of New Zealand in the Southland region, 45 km (28 mi) east of Invercargill and 25 km (15 mi) south of Gore. The original Māori name of the locality was Mokoreta (clear or sweet water). Wyndham was named for General Sir Charles Ashe Windham who fought in the Crimean War. The streets are in turn named for events, places, battles and personalities from that war. The town was initially surveyed in 1869 and gazetted a town district in 1882.
