Te Taho

Te Taho is a small farming community of eleven houses in the West Coast region of the South Island of New Zealand between the north bank of the Whataroa River and Mt Hercules. It is located slightly inland from the coast. State Highway 6 passes through Te Taho on its route from Harihari to Whataroa. Te Taho once included a maternity hospital and a number of schools.

Whataroa

Whataroa is a small township in southern Westland on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. It is located on the western bank of the Whataroa River, with the village of Te Taho on the other side. State Highway 6 passes through Whataroa on its route from Ross to the Franz Josef Glacier. Harihari is 31 kilometres to the north-east, and Franz Josef is 32 km to the south-west. The population of Whataroa and its surrounding area was 405 in the 2006 Census, an increase of 81 from 2001.

Saltwater Lagoon

The Saltwater Lagoon is a lagoon located on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. It is in the southern Westland District, with Abut Head to the west and the village of Harihari to the east/southeast. The lagoon is located on the coast of the Tasman Sea and has a narrow sea opening at the western end that lets in saltwater. No rivers feed into the lagoon, but the Hinatua River passes very close to the lagoon's eastern shore.

Hinatua River

The Hinatua River is a small river in the Westland District of New Zealand's South Island. Its headwaters are on Mount Hercules, near State Highway 6 as it runs between Harihari and Te Taho. The Hinatua River then flows in a general northerly direction, passing just to the east of the Saltwater Lagoon before flowing close to the Tasman Sea coastline before joining the Poerua River at its rivermouth.
