Eko Bridge

Eko Bridge is the shortest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria to the mainland, the other two being the Third Mainland and Carter bridges. The bridge starts from Ijora on the mainland and ends at the Apongbon area of Lagos Island. The lagoon section of the bridge spans a distance of 430 metres. The bridge and its landward extension of 1350 metres were constructed in phases between 1965 and 1975.

2006 Lagos building collapses

Due to generally poor construction standards in Lagos, Nigeria building collapses are a fairly common occurrence. In 2006, up to 3 building collapses were reported. Building collapses in Lagos kill dozens yearly because of poor building and construction standards as well as poor materials.

Lagos armoury explosion

The Lagos armoury explosion was the accidental detonation of a large stock of military high explosives at a storage facility in the city of Lagos, Nigeria on 27 January 2002. The fires created by the debris from this explosion burnt down a large section of Northern Lagos, and created a panic that spread to other areas. As people fled the flames, many stumbled into a concealed canal and were drowned.

Bellview Airlines Flight 210

On 22 October 2005, Bellview Airlines Flight 210, a Boeing 737-200 aircraft, crashed shortly after taking off from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos en route to the Nigerian capital Abuja, killing all 117 people on board.
