Torpa, Norway

Torpa is a former municipality in Oppland county, Norway. It was created by a split from Nordre Land on 1 January 1914. At that time Torpa had a population of 2,219. On 1 January 1962 Torpa was reincorporated into Nordre Land. Prior to the merger Torpa had a population of 2,620. Torpa constitutes the northern part of the Nordre Land community. Torpa bordering municipalities Etnedal and Nord-Aurdal in the west, Gausdal, Lillehammer and Gjøvik in the east. Torpa is only a few miles from Dokka.

Vestre Gausdal

Vestre Gausdal is a former municipality in Oppland county, Norway. The administrative centre was Forset. It was created when Gausdal was split into Vestre and Østre Gausdal in 1879. At that time Vestre Gausdal had a population of 2.362. On 1 January 1962 the two municipalities were reunited under the name Gausdal. Prior to the merger Vestre Gausdal had a population of 2.590.

Forset is a village in the municipality of Gausdal, Norway. Its population is 637. Located by the river Gausa a few kilometres west of Follebu and Segalstad bru, Forset was the administrative centre of the former municipality Vestre Gausdal, now a part of Gausdal.

Lands Museum

Lands Museum is the cultural and natural history centre for Nordre and Søndre Land municipalities of Oppland county. The museum lies at the northern end of Norway’s fourth largest lake, Randsfjorden, and is near the Dokka Delta nature reserve. The museum contains more than 30 historical buildings. Among them is a 17th century house from Thomle farm with rococo paintings by the artist Peder Aadnes (1739–92). New to the museum is a middle ages section with a reconstructed hearth cottage.
