Eigerøya

Eigerøya is an island in Eigersund, Norway. The island covers an area of 19,9 km². Highest point is 131m a.s.l. Eigerøya is separated from the mainland by a narrow strait with length about 13 km. A bridge over the strait connects Eigerøya to the mainland. The island has fish processing industry and other industries. Two lighthouses are located at the island, Eigerøy Lighthouse and Vibberodden Lighthouse.

Hellvik

Hellvik is a village in the municipality of Eigersund, Norway. Its population (2005) is 643. Hellvik is a good natural harbour and is a popular location for holiday houses. There is a school, a kindergarten. The biggest employer in Hellvik is Hellvik Hus, which produces houses all over Norway. The Sørlandet Line, historically the Jæren Line, runs through the village, with the Jæren Commuter Rail stopping at Hellvik Station. Hellviks A-soccer team plays in the 5th division.

Hellvik Station

Hellvik Station is a railway station located at Hellvik in Eigersund, Norway on the Sørland Line. The station is served by the Jæren Commuter Rail between Stavanger and Egersund. The station is 66.79 kilometers south of Stavanger. The station was opened in 1879, one year after the Jæren Line.

Action of 22 August 1795

The Action of 22 August 1795 was a minor naval engagement during the French Revolutionary Wars between a squadron of four British Royal Navy frigates and two frigates and a cutter from the Navy of the Batavian Republic. The engagement was fought off the Norwegian coastal island of Eigerøya, then in Danish Norway, the opposing forces engaged in protecting their respective countries' trade routes to the Baltic Sea.
