San Juan Botanical Garden

The San Juan Botanical Garden, also known as the Botanical Garden of the University of Puerto Rico, is located in the Caribbean city of San Juan, capital of Puerto Rico. This lush 300-acre “urban garden” of native and exotic flora serves as a laboratory for the study, conservation and enrichment of plants, trees, flowers, grasses and many other plants. Seventy-five acres are landscaped and open to the general public as well as researchers.

Monacillo Urbano is a barrio in San Juan, Puerto Rico that was originally part of Monacillo Barrio. In 2000 it had a population of 29,309 living in a land area of 3.35 square miles (8.68 km²). Monacillo Urbano is surrounded by Gobernador Piñero Barrio to the north, El Cinco Barrio to the east, Monacillo Barrio to the south, and the municipality of Guaynabo to the west.

Río Piedras, Puerto Rico

Río Piedras is a district of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Founded as a separate municipality in 1714, it has been the home of the University of Puerto Rico's main campus since 1903, earning the town the popular name of Ciudad Universitaria (University City). Rio Piedras was recognized as a municipality until 1951 when it was incorporated into the municipality of San Juan.

Río Piedras massacre

The Río Piedras Massacre occurred on October 24, 1935, at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. Local police officers confronted and opened fire on supporters of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party. Four Nationalist Party members were killed, and one police officer was wounded during the shooting.
