Cindrel Mountains

Cindrel Mountains (also known as Cândrel Mountains, Cibin Mountains, or the Szeben Alps) are a group of mountains in central Romania in the centre of the Southern Carpathians, in the North-East of the Parâng Mountains group. From the Transylvanian Plateau, with heights between 200 and 400 m, in the North and East, the heights grow abruptly through a zone of deep valleys at about 900 m on the verge of the massif where some villages are situated.

Lotru-Ciunget Hydroelectric Power Station

Lotru-Ciunget Dam and Hydro Power Plant plant is a large hydroelectric complex on the Lotru River situated in Romania and one of the biggest complex facilities in Europe. The complex consists of three hydroelectric power plants. The first and most productive one is Ciunget, the second one is Malaia and the third one is Bradisor which, just as Ciunget is an underground power plant. The river which fills the dams is called Lotru.

Vidra Lake

Vidra Lake is a storage reservoir, located in the Parâng Mountains group, on the Lotru River, in Romania. It has an area of 12.40 km² and a volume of 340 million m³. Its associated hydroelectric plant Ciungetu, has a maximum power output of 510 MW, using an altitude difference of about 800 m. The dam and the hydro plant were built between 1965 and 1972. It is the second largest hydro plant in Romania, after Iron Gates.
