Danube Delta

The Danube Delta is the second largest river delta in Europe, after the Volga Delta, and is the best preserved on the continent. The greater part of the Danube Delta lies in Romania, while its northern part, on the left bank of the Chilia arm, is situated in Ukraine. The approximate surface is 4152 km², of which 3446 km² are in Romania.

Popina Island

Popina Island is a Romanian island in the northern part of the Razelm Lake (Razim). The island spans 98 hectares and it is a protected reserve, hosting an important nesting area for shelducks. Razelm Lake is the largest permanent water expanse in the Danube Delta, separated from the Black Sea by two long grinds and it flows into Goloviţa Lake, a fish farm now.

Bystroye Canal

The Bystroye Canal (also known in English as Bystroe Canal, in Ukrainian as Канал Дунай — Чорне море meaning Danube – Black Sea Canal, and in Romanian as Canalul Bâstroe) is a canal in the Danube Delta. It was among the main Ukrainian waterways until 1959, when its exploitation stopped due to natural silting. After the Prorva Canal became silted in 1997, Ukraine was left without its own deep-water canal between the Danube and the Black Sea.
