Chernyakhovsk (air base)

Chernyakhovsk (also Chernyahovsk) – Russian: Черняхо́вск – is a naval air base located 4 km southwest of the city of Chernyakhovsk (formerly Insterburg) in the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. It is a medium sized interceptor airfield, listed as a nuclear bomber base by a Natural Resources Defense Council study. One of the main regiments at the base was the 4th Guards Maritime Assault Aviation Regiment, known up until 1989 as the 4th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment.

Mayovka

Mayovka, prior to 1945 known by its German name Georgenberg is a settlement in Chernyakhovsky District of Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia. Mayovka is located about ten kilometers northwest of Chernyakhovsk and has the best preserved medieval castle in the oblast. The town was founded around the Ordensburg fortress Georgenburg ("George's castle") by the Teutonic Knights. The German-inhabited town became famous from a local stable for the Trakehner horse breed.

Chernyakhovsky District

Chernyakhovsky District is an administrative and municipal district, one of the fifteen in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia. It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,285.75 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Chernyakhovsk. Population: 51,936; 57,521; 12,806. The population of Chernyakhovsk accounts for 77.9% of the district's total population.

Instruch River

The Instruch is a river in Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast. It develops northeast of Dobrovolsk (formerly Pillkallen, Schlossberg between 1938-1946) and, along with the Angrapa River, forms the Pregolya near Chernyakhovsk. Prior to 1945, the river was part of German East Prussia. The town of Insterburg (now Chernyakhovsk) was named after the river's German name, Inster.
