Pulkovo Heights

Pulkovo Heights is a chain of hills located to the south of Saint Petersburg. They run to the south-west in the direction of the Izhora Plateau and have an altitude of up to 73 meters. They were used as a natural defense line during the Russian Civil War and the Battle of Leningrad. It is the location of the Pulkovo Observatory and the industrial suburb of Shushary.

Pulkovo Observatory

The Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory (Russian: Пу́лковская астрономи́ческая обсервато́рия, official name The Central Astronomical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences at Pulkovo, Гла́вная астрономи́ческая обсервато́рия Росси́йской акаде́мии нау́к), the principal astronomical observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, located 19 km south of Saint Petersburg on Pulkovo Heights (75 m above sea level).

Pulkovo Airport

Pulkovo Airport (Russian: Аэропо́рт Пу́лково, Aeroport Pulkovo) is an international airport serving Saint Petersburg, Russia. It consists of two terminals, Pulkovo-1 (serving mostly domestic flights) and Pulkovo-2 (international flights), which are located about 20 km and 17 km south of the city centre, respectively. The airport serves as a hub for Rossiya Airlines, and as focus city for Nordavia.

Shushary, Saint Petersburg

Shushary is a municipal settlement in Pushkinsky District of the federal city of St.  Petersburg, Russia, located on the slopes of the Pulkovo Heights. Population: 22,648; 15,843; 4,789. Shushary gained importance in 1838 as the location of the first railway siding in the Russian Empire and one of the first railway stations in the country. A living-history steam-engine museum chronicles the town's long association with the Russian Railways.

Zvyozdnaya

Zvyozdnaya is a station on the Moskovsko-Petrogradskaya Line of the Saint Petersburg Metro. It was opened on December 25, 1972. It was designed by K.N. Afonskya, A.C. Getskin and V.P. Shuvalova. In the original blueprints, the station was called "Imeni Lensoveta" (Soviet of Leningrad Honorary station).
