Sychyovka, Sychyovsky District, Smolensk Oblast

Sychyovka is a town and the administrative center of Sychyovsky District of Smolensk Oblast, Russia, located between the Vazuza and Losmina Rivers 234 kilometers northeast of Smolensk. Population: 8,111; 8,683; 9,643. It was first mentioned in 1488 as a votchina of a Tver prince Ivan the Young, son of Ivan III. In 1493, it became a palace village (дворцовое село) of Vyazminsky Uyezd. In 1776, Sychyovka was granted town status.

Zubtsov

Zubtsov is a town and the administrative center of Zubtsovsky District of Tver Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Volga and Vazuza Rivers, 153 kilometers south of Tver, 18 kilometers southeast of Rzhev, and 44 kilometers southwest of Staritsa. Population: 6,927; 7,430; 7,630; 8,100 (1998 est.). Zubtsov was first mentioned in a chronicle in 1216. In the Middle Ages, it was a border fortress of the Principality of Tver.

Vazuza River

Vazuza is a river in Smolensk Oblast and Tver Oblast, Russia, a right tributary of the Volga River. Length: 162 km, watershed area: 7120 km². The lower part of the river has been transformed into Vazuza Reservoir. The towns of Sychyovka and Zubtsov are located on the Vazuza (the latter at its confluence with the Volga).
