Don Álvaro is a municipality located in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain. According to the 2005 census, the municipality has a population of 633 inhabitants. Don Álvaro (Tarfe) is the name of the principal characters in another version of the second book of Don Quixote published by Alonso Fernández de Avellaneda in Tarragona in 1614.

Emerita Augusta

The roman colony of Emerita Augusta was founded in 25 BC by Octavius Augustus, to resettle emeritus soldiers discharged from the Roman army from two veteran legions of the Cantabrian Wars: Legio V Alaudae and Legio X Gemina. The city was the capital of the Roman province of Lusitania. The term emeritus meant in latin "retired" and referred to retired soldiers with honor.
