Lakegala

Lakegala mountain is situated in Sri Lanka about 175 kilometres away from the capital Colombo. This is the place where King Ravana lifted his historical aeroplane called Dhadu Monara according to a popular legend. This mountain is situated in Meemure village. Lakegala is situated near the Border between Kandy and Matale Districts. There are several access points to Lakegala rock but the safest access road is from Meemure Village.

Meemure

Meemure is a village in Sri Lanka with a population of about 400. It is located near the border between Kandy District and Matale District in the Knuckles Mountain Range. Meemure is one of the most remote villages in Sri Lanka with the only access via a 14 km trail from the town of Loolwatte. There is no cellular service available in the village, but a CDMA telephone service is available.

Central Highlands of Sri Lanka

Central Highlands of Sri Lanka is the newest recognised world Heritage Site in Sri Lanka. On 31 July 2010, the World Heritage Committee holding its 34th session in Brasília inscribed Central Highlands of Sri Lanka and Papahānaumokuākea of Hawaii as new World Heritage Sites. The site comprises the Peak Wilderness Protected Area, the Horton Plains National Park and the Knuckles Conservation Forest. These are rain forests, where the elevation reaches 2,500 metres above sea level.
