Jabal Awliya

Jabal Awliya (Jabal al Awliyā', Jebel Aulia, Gebel Aulia) is a village in the north-central part of Sudan, about 40 km south of Khartoum. Nearby is the Jebel Aulia Dam, built in 1937 by the British for the Egyptian government. Jabal Awliya became a refuge camp during the Second Sudanese Civil War, housing more than 100,000 inhabitants. On February 26, 1996, a Sudanese C-130 transport plane crashed at Jabal Awliya, killing 53.

Jebel Aulia Dam

The Jebel Aulia Dam is a dam on the White Nile near the capital of Sudan, Khartoum. Following completion of his work on the Sennar Dam, civil engineer John Watson Gibson entered into partnership in 1933 with Pauling & Co. , forming Gibson and Pauling (Foreign) Ltd. in 1933 to build the dam, the largest dam in the world at that time. On the successful completion of the dam in 1937, Gibson became managing director of Pauling & Co. , a position he held until his death in March 1947.

Yarmouk munitions factory explosion

On Tuesday 23 October 2012 at midnight local time there was an explosion at the Yarmouk munitions factory, south of Khartoum, Sudan. The factory had been built in 1996. According to Khartoum state governor Abdel Rahman Al-Khidir the explosion probably happened at the main storage facility. The resulting fire resulted in the death of two people and one person being injured. According to Sudanese opposition, the arms factory belonged to Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

International University of Africa

The International University of Africa is a public University in Khartoum, Sudan. It is a member of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World. The university has faculties of Education and Humanities, Shariah and Islamic Studies and of Pure and Applied Sciences. The university has its origins in the Islamic African Centre, established in Khartoum in 1977. In 1992 the military government of Colonel Omar al-Bashir upgraded the institute to a university.

Khartoum International Community School

Khartoum International Community School (KICS) is a private English medium International School established by DAL Group in 2004.
