Al-Ariqah

Ariqah or ‘Arīqah is a village in southern Syria with a population of about 3,000. It is located in the heart of the rocky volcanic plateau of Lejah also called (Lajat). Administratively Ariqah is situated in the Mantiqat Shahba (Shahba district) of As Suwayda Governorate. Ariqah is known for its volcanic cave which is located in a 10 meters deep hollow in the centre of the village.

Lajat

Al-Lajat is a region located in southern Syria east of the Jordan River, on an island of rock which was approximately 20 miles by 30 miles, and rose 20 or 30 feet above the table-land of Bashan. The region is known by several names. Historically it was known as Argob, and in the Bible it is called Trachonitis. In addition, it's modern-day title has multiple spellings in English, including Lajat, Lejat and Lajah and El-Leja.

Shahba

Shahba, known in Late Antiquity as Philippopolis, is a city located 87 km south of Damascus in the Jabal el Druze in As-Suwayda Governorate of Syria, but formerly in the Roman province of Arabia Petraea.

Shahba District

Shahba' District is a Syrian district administratively belonging to As-Suwayda Governorate. It is located in the south-west of the country and in the north of the As-Suwayda Governorate. At the 2004 Census it had a population of 71,949. Its administrative centre is the city of Shahba.

Shaqqa

Shaqqa or Shakka a Syrian town in As Suwayda Governorate in Southern Syria. It is located 7 kilometres east of Shahba. Nowadays it is a town with about 8,000 inhabitants, in the northern fringes of Jabal el Druze volcanic plateau at 1070 metres above sea level. Shaqqa enjoyed some significance in Roman and Byzantine times in the province of Arabia, when it was known as Maximianopolis.
