Dongshi District

Dongshi District is a suburban district in eastern Taichung, Republic of China (Taiwan). A majority of the residents are of Hakka ethnicity, making it an enclave in an otherwise non-Hakka county. Its Hakka dialect is very distinct compared to the dialects of other counties.

1935 Hsinchu-Taichung earthquake

The 1935 Hsinchu-Taichung earthquake (Chinese: 1935年新竹台中地震; pinyin: 1935 nián Xīnzhú-Táizhōng Dìzhèn or Chinese: 1935年中部大地震; pinyin: 1935 Nián Zhōngbù Dà Dìzhèn; literally Great 1935 Central Taiwan Earthquake) was a magnitude 7.1 earthquake which occurred on April 21, 1935, with its epicentre in Sanyi (三義), Miaoli County, Taiwan. It was the deadliest earthquake in Taiwan's recorded history, claiming 3,276 lives and causing extensive damage.

Beitun District

Beitun District is the largest district of Taichung in Taiwan, the Republic of China. Located in the northern part of the city, it is a half mountainous, half urban area. Though Beitun District used to be considered part of the countryside, the new TaiYuan train station has urbanized it considerably. The highest point of Taichung City is located in Beitun, Douliu Hill (859 m).

Taichung County

Taichung County was a county in central Taiwan, the Republic of China, that surrounded but did not include Taichung City. The name Taichung means "central Taiwan". On December 25, 2010, the county and city merged to form a single special municipality.
