1972 Ruisui earthquake

The 1972 Ruisui earthquake, or the 1972 Juisui earthquake, occurred on April 24, 1972 at 09:57 UTC . The magnitude of this earthquake was given as Ms 7.2 by USGS and ML 6.9 by the Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan. The epicenter was located near Ruisui (or spelled as Juisui), Hualian, Taiwan. The intensity was shindo 4 in Taipei and Hualian. 5 people were reported dead. The Ruisui Bridge was destroyed. The water treatment plant in Ruisui was damaged.

Bashian Cave

Bashian Cave is located in the East Coast of Taiwan in Hualien County. Bashian Cave possesses a distinctive eroded look and is famous for ruins dating from the Old Stone Age. There are 10-plus caves on the 328-feet high precipice, each of a different size and depth. Originally the caverns were below sea level, allowing waves to shape them, but now they are located on a high cliff - proof of the East Coast's changing surface.

Yuchang Tunnel

The Yuchang Tunnel is a 2,660 m long tunnel located in east Taiwan. The tunnel through the Coastal Range. It is started construction on September 1, 2001, and was recently opened to the public on June 16, 2007. The tunnel is part of the Yuchang Highway, which links Hualien County and Taitung County.
