La Brea, Trinidad and Tobago

La Brea is a town in southwestern Trinidad, located north of Point Fortin and south of Rousillac and San Fernando. La Brea (Spanish for "the tar") is best known as the site of the Pitch Lake, a natural asphalt lake. Pronunciation of "La Brea" differs from that used in the USA at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. Trinidadians call this place "La Bray."

Pitch Lake

The Pitch Lake is the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world, located at La Brea in southwest Trinidad, within the Siparia Regional Corporation. The lake covers about 40 ha and is reported to be 75 m deep. Pitch Lake is a tourist attraction that attracts about 20,000 visitors annually. It is also mined for asphalt by Lake Asphalt of Trinidad and Tobago.

Dow Village

Dow Village is a mixed village in southern Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago. It is often confused with another 'Dow Village' located in central Trinidad, located in the town of California, just east of The Southern Main Road, near Couva. The "South" Dow Village is located south of Otaheite Bay, north of Fyzabad and west of Debe. Dow Village is a fairly rural area, however some development has taken place recently, as well as an increase in traffic.

Fyzabad

Fyzabad is a town in southwestern Trinidad, 13 km south of San Fernando, west of Siparia and northeast of Point Fortin. It is named after the town of Faizabad in India. Colloquially it is known as "Fyzo" by many people, especially taxicab drivers.
