Fairy Toot

The Fairy Toot is an extensive oval barrow in the village of Nempnett Thrubwell, Somerset, England. It is an example of the Severn-Cotswold tomb type which consist of precisely-built, long trapezoid earth mounds covering a burial chamber. Because of this they are a type of chambered long barrow. Fairy Toot was formerly a chambered cairn which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, on the national monument register as '198102'.

Blagdon Lake

Blagdon Lake ST515597 lies in the Chew Valley at the northern edge of the Mendip Hills, approximately 10 mi (16 km) south of Bristol, England. The lake was created by Bristol Water (Bristol Waterworks Company as it was known then), when it dammed the River Yeo, starting construction in 1891 and completing this in 1899. The Wrington Vale Light Railway was constructed primarily to bring building materials for the lake.

Lulsgate Plateau

Lulsgate Plateau is the name given to the Carboniferous Limestone hills which form a northern outlier of the Mendip Hills, southwest of Bristol, England, approximately 600 feet above sea level, which has been occupied since prehistoric times. 40x40px Look up coombe in Wiktionary, the free dictionary. Aveline's Hole

Aveline's Hole is a cave at Burrington Combe in the limestone of the Mendip Hills, in Somerset, England. The earliest scientifically dated cemetery in Britain was found at Aveline's Hole. The human bone fragments it contained, from about 21 different individuals, are thought to be between roughly 10,200 and 10,400 years old. A series of inscribed crosses found on the wall of the Aveline's Hole cave are believed to date from the early Mesolithic period just after the Ice Age.

Chew Magna Reservoir

Chew Magna Reservoir is a small reservoir on the western outskirts of the village of Chew Magna, Somerset, England. It lies just north of the B3130 Winford Road. This 5 acres reservoir was created in the 1930s, damming Winford brook, to supply water for villages in the Chew Valley. It is owned and managed by Bristol Water. Chew Magna reservoir provides fly fishing for stocked Brown Trout (Salmo trutta morpha fario) and Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Rainbows can be fished all year.
