Camber Sands

For historical information on the area, see Camber article Camber Sands is a beach at the village of Camber, East Sussex, England. It is the only sand dune system in East Sussex and is located east of the estuary of the River Rother at Rye Bay all the way to the East Sussex/Kent border.

Rye and Camber Tramway

The Rye and Camber Tramway was an English narrow gauge railway in East Sussex. It was of 36 gauge, relatively unusual amongst British narrow gauge railways. It operated from 1895 until 1939, connecting Rye to the coast. It was about 1+⁄4 miles in length, and had three stations - Rye, Golf Links and Camber Sands. It operated mainly to transport golfers to the golf links and holidaymakers to the coastal dunes.

Camber Castle

Camber Castle is one of Henry VIII's Device Forts, also known as Henrician Castles, built to protect the huge Rye anchorage. It is approximately 2 km south of Rye and 2 km northeast of Winchelsea.

Rye Castle

Rye Castle was built in 1249, and is situated in Rye, East Sussex, England. It was Henry III who gave permission for the castle to be built as part of the defence against the frequent raids by the French. At the time, the coast was under constant threat from the French, who were warring with England. As one of the cinque ports towns, Rye was given privileges in exchange for its support, and the defensive structure of Ypres Tower provided this support.

The Salts

The Rye Cricket Salts is a multi-use sports venue in Rye, East Sussex. The Cricket Salts is home to Rye United who play in the Sussex County League Division One. The venue plays host to cricket and is home to Rye Cricket Club, who play in the East Sussex Cricket League. The Cricket Salts are located next the River Rother, which runs all through Sussex and joins the English Channel at Rye Bay. The Town Salts lie to the south of The Cricket Salts, and are home to Rye Bowls Club.
