Tyne and Wear Metro

The Tyne and Wear Metro, also locally known as the Metro, is a light rail/rapid transit system in North East England, serving Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Sunderland. It opened in 1980 and in 2007–2008 provided 40 million public journeys on its network of nearly 78 kilometres . It is the second largest of the three rapid transit metro systems in the UK, after the London Underground; the other being Glasgow Subway.

Ilford Road Metro station

Ilford Road Metro station is located mid-way between the Newcastle upon Tyne suburbs of Jesmond and Gosforth. The station opened in August 1980 and is served by the Tyne and Wear Metro service. It was the "typical Metro halt" used in publicity when the system first opened; when other stations were being repainted red, green or blue in the early years of the 21st century, Ilford Road was repainted in original brown, with much of the unpainted concrete being painted cream.

South Gosforth Metro station

South Gosforth Metro station is located in a suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne in England. It is a busy interchange station on the Tyne and Wear Metro where many passengers change between Green line services to/from the Airport and Yellow line services to/from the Coast. During peak periods the station sees an intensive service with trains operating up to every 3 minutes to and from Newcastle city centre.
