Hawkesbury Quarry

Hawkesbury Quarry is a 0.25 hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest near the village of Hawkesbury Upton, South Gloucestershire, notified in 1967. The site is notable for containing both the oolitic limestone of the northern Cotswolds, and the fossil-bearing limestone found further south.

Hawkesbury, Gloucestershire

Hawkesbury is a hamlet consisting of a few cottages around a triangular green, it is also the name of a civil parish in the South Gloucestershire unitary authority in England in which Hawkesbury itself lies, it is located west of Hawkesbury Upton, off the A46 road. The civil parish includes Hawkesbury itself, the larger village of Hawkesbury Upton and the hamlets of Dunkirk, Petty France and Little Badminton. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,235.

Lord Edward Somerset

General Lord Robert Edward Henry Somerset GCB (19 December 1776 – 1 September 1842) was a British soldier. He was the third son of the 5th duke of Beaufort, and elder brother of Lord Raglan. Joining the 15th Light Dragoons in 1793, he became captain in the following year, and received a majority after serving as aide-de-camp to the duke of York in the Dutch expedition of 1799. At the end of 1800 he became a lieutenant-colonel, and in 1801 received the command of the 4th Light Dragoons.

Bodkin Hazel Wood is a 10.62 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), just south of the village of Hawkesbury Upton in South Gloucestershire, notified in 1974.

Horton Court

Horton Court is a stone-built 16th century manor house in Horton, near Chipping Sodbury, South Gloucestershire, England. The building retains a 12th century Norman hall, and displays some of the earliest Renaissance decorative motifs used in England. It has been a National Trust property since 1949. The house was built by Rev. William Knight (d. 1547) in about 1521.
