Glen River, County Down
Glen River is a short river in County Down, Northern Ireland. It flows from the foot of Slieve Commedagh and Slieve Donard in the Mourne Mountains into Dundrum Bay at Newcastle. It is quite a fast flowing river with many small waterfalls and deep pools. It flows through Donard Forest and Donard Park and is crossed by five bridges. Some of the water from this river supplies the houses in the surrounding area of the south end of Newcastle.

The New Castle, County Down
The New Castle (Irish: An Caisleán Nua) is a ruined castle at the mouth of the Shimna River in Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland. The original castle is mentioned as early as 1433 and was built to guard a ford across the river. The castle was rebuilt in 1588 by Felix Magenis. It was destroyed sometime in the 19th century.

Shimna River
The Shimna River is a river in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is a spate river that rises on the slopes of Ott Mountain, in the Mourne Mountains, and enters the Irish Sea at Newcastle, on Dundrum Bay. It is acidic and nutrient-poor, as a result of which its most common flora are mosses and liverworts, including the rare Portuguese feather-moss and Holt's mouse-tail moss. Its principle fish are salmon and sea trout, and it is managed by the Shimna Angling Club.

Tollymore Forest Park
Tollymore Forest Park was the first state forest park in Northern Ireland, established on the 2 June 1955. It is located at Bryansford, near the town of Newcastle. Covering an area of 630 hectares at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, the forest park offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the sea at nearby Newcastle. The forest has four walking trails signposted by different coloured arrows, the longest being the "long haul trail" at 8 miles long.
