Eskdalemuir Observatory

The Eskdalemuir Observatory is located near Eskdalemuir, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Built in 1904, its remote location was chosen to minimise electrical interference with geomagnetic instruments, which were relocated there from Kew Observatory in 1908 after the advent of electrification in London led to interference with instruments. The distinguished meteorologist and mathematician Lewis Fry Richardson served as Superintendent at the Observatory between 1913 and 1918.

Holm, Inverness

Holm is a small residential area in the south of the city of Inverness, Scotland. The area lies East of the River Ness. The most prominent structure in the vicinity is the Holm Mills. The mill is known for its contribution to the Caledonian Canal, by weaving a cloth to prevent the embankments from leaking. Until recently, tartan was still being woven in the original building. The premises are now a shop and visitor centre.

Boreland

Boreland is a village in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, which is located in the Eskdale valley about 7 miles north of Lockerbie on the B723 road to Eskdalemuir. The village has a post office and a small primary school. There is another small village called Boreland in Perthshire.
