Lamar County, Alabama

Lamar County (formerly Jones County and Sanford County) is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. Its name is in honor of Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar, member of the United States Senate from Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,564. Its county seat is Vernon and it is a prohibition or dry county.

Gu-Win, Alabama

Gu-Win is a town in Fayette and Marion counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. At the 2000 census the population was 204. The town's unusual name is taken from part of two neighboring cities, Guin and Winfield. "Gu-Win" and "Guin" are not the same, though the pronunciation is virtually the same, leading to occasional confusion by visitors.

Luxapallila Creek

Luxapallila Creek is a 73.6-mile-long stream in Mississippi and Alabama in the United States. Luxapallilla means "flying turtle" in the Choctaw language. The creek drains a watershed of 803 square miles and flows through Lamar County, Marion County, Fayette County and Pickens County in Alabama and Monroe County and Lowndes County in Mississippi. It runs through the cities of Winfield, Millport, Kennedy, Vernon, and Fayette.
