Named after the Muscogee Lumber Company, formed by Georgia lumber men, the European-American town was founded in 1857 by a group of lumbermen to harvest timber from the surrounding pine forests. They and the following company clearcut the timber, and once the forests were gone, lumbering was ended in this area.

Saufley Field
Saufley Field is a military airport located five nautical miles (9 km) west of the central business district of Pensacola, in Escambia County, Florida, United States. It is an active U.S. Navy facility and a former Naval Air Station currently used as a Naval Outlying Field (NOLF) in its aeronautical role (primarily for Training Air Wing FIVE at nearby NAS Whiting Field), and as a shore installation for various naval activities that are part of the greater Pensacola naval complex.

Perdido River
The Perdido River is a 65.4-mile-long river in the U.S. states of Alabama and Florida; the Perdido, a designated Outstanding Florida Waters river, forms part of the boundary between the two states along nearly its entire length and drains into the Gulf of Mexico. During the early 19th century it played a central role in a series of rotating boundary changes and disputes among France, Spain, Great Britain, and the United States.
