The city, centered near the intersection of U.S. Route 25 and State Route 17 and along the proposed Interstate 3, is the county seat of Jenkins County.

Jenkins County High School

Jenkins County High School is located in Jenkins County in the city of Millen, Georgia, United States. Their mascot is the War Eagle. Jenkins County's track team won the state championship in 2003 and were state runners-up in 2004. The Jenkins County JROTC Raiders and Regulation Drill Team were 2008 and 2009 Overall State Champions. The Raider team was 1st Runner-up at the National Level competition, held in Molena, Georgia, in 2009.

Battle of Buck Head Creek

The Battle of Buck Head Creek (also known as Buckhead Creek) was the second battle of Sherman's March to the Sea, fought November 28, 1864, during the American Civil War. Union Army cavalry under Brig. Gen. Judson Kilpatrick repulsed an attack by the small Confederate cavalry corps under Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler, but abandoned its attempt to destroy railroads and rescue Union prisoners of war.
