Ogeechee River

Ogeechee River is a 294-mile-long blackwater river in the U.S. state of Georgia. It heads at the confluence of its North and South Forks, about 2.5 miles south-southwest of Crawfordville and flowing generally southeast to Ossabaw Sound about 16 miles south of Savannah. Its largest tributary is the Canoochee River. The Ogeechee has a watershed of 5,540 square miles .

Vernon River (Georgia)

Wassaw Island

Wassaw Island is one of the Sea Islands. It is located on the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the U.S. state of Georgia and is part of Chatham County. The island and its surrounding marshlands are part of the Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge, which has a total area of 10,053 acres of marsh, mudflats, and tidal creeks, including approximately 7 miles of undeveloped beaches. The land mass is 76 percent salt marshes and 24 percent beaches, dunes, and maritime forest.

Battle of Fort McAllister (1864)

The Second Battle of Fort McAllister took place December 13, 1864, during the final stages of Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's March to the Sea during the American Civil War. Union forces overwhelmed a small Confederate force defending the strategically important Fort McAllister near Savannah, Georgia, a major Federal objective.

North Newport River
