La Porte (French for "The Door") is a city in La Porte County, Indiana, United States, of which it is the county seat. Its population was 22,053 at the 2010 census. It is one of the two principal cities of the Michigan City-La Porte, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Chicago-Naperville-Michigan City, Illinois-Indiana-Wisconsin Combined Statistical Area. La Porte is located in northwest Indiana, east of Gary, and west of South Bend and was first settled in 1832.

La Porte Municipal Airport is a city-owned public-use airport located three miles (5 km) south of the central business district of La Porte, a city in La Porte County, Indiana, United States. Door Village, Indiana

Door Village is an unincorporated town in Scipio Township, LaPorte County, Indiana. The Chicago-New York Electric Air Line Railroad had a station in Door Village south of present day Joliet Road. The site of the Old Fort at Door Village which was built in 1832 and a marker designates the site. A young man rode his Indian pony from Fort Dearborn to this part of the country to warn the settlers that Black Hawk and his Indians were coming on the warpath.
