Mongo is an unincorporated village in Springfield Township, LaGrange County, Indiana. The name Mongo derives from the early settlers' name for the area: Mongoquinong. Although An Illustrated Historical Atlas of LaGrange County, Indiana (1874) translates this as "Big Squaw Village", is presently thought to be a corruption of the Miami-Illinois maankwahkionka, meaning "In the Loon Land".

The county is located about 55 miles east of South Bend, 105 miles west of Toledo, Ohio, and 175 miles northeast of Indianapolis. The area is well known for its large Amish population. For that reason, the county teams up with neighboring Elkhart County to promote tourism by referring to the area as Northern Indiana Amish Country.
