It is one of two high schools in the Western Dubuque Community School District, and enrolls 770 students in grades 9-12. Dubuque County is coterminous with the Dubuque, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is the seventh largest county by population in the state. It is named for Julien Dubuque, the first European settler of Iowa.
