El Dorado Listen/ɛldɵˈreɪdoʊ/ EL-də-RAY-doh is a city situated along the Walnut River in the central part of Butler County, located in south-central Kansas, in the Central United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 13,021. It is the county seat and most populous city of Butler County. El Dorado is included in the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area.

El Dorado Correctional Facility

The El Dorado Correctional Facility, or EDCF, is a maximum security prison located in Prospect Township in Butler County, Kansas east of the town of El Dorado. EDCF is home of the Kansas Department of Corrections Reception and Diagnostic Unit, or RDU, which processes every male inmate when they are received into KDOC custody. RDU helps determine the inmate's custody level, mental health classification, and educational program needs before he is sent to another facility.

El Dorado Lake

El Dorado Lake is a reservoir in Butler County, Kansas, northeast of El Dorado. El Dorado Reservoir was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was completed in June 1981. The lake consists of approximately 8,000 acres of water, 4,500 acres of park lands and 3,500 acres of wildlife area. Management of the reservoir resources has been granted to the Ks. Dept. of Wildlife and Parks.
