Allen Parish, Louisiana

Allen Parish is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Oberlin. As of the 2000 census, the population was 25,440. Allen Parish is in southwestern Louisiana, southwest of Alexandria. Allen Parish is named for former Confederate States Army general and Governor of Louisiana Henry Watkins Allen. It was separated in 1912 from the larger Calcasieu Parish to the southwest.

Oberlin, Louisiana

Oberlin is a town in and the parish seat of Allen Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2000 census. The town is named after Johan Friedrich Oberlin. Oberlin was the home of Ernest S. Clements, a Democratic member of the Louisiana State Senatre and, later, the Louisiana Public Service Commission. He ran unsuccessfully in 1944 for governor of Louisiana.

It is owned by Allen Parish Police Jury. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, Allen Parish Airport is assigned ACP by the FAA but has no designation from the IATA.

Kinder, Louisiana

Kinder is a town in Allen Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,148 at the 2000 census. The Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet Memorial Park, an American Legion enterprise, was dedicated on June 11, 1988, in Kinder to remember those who died in military service to the nation. Kinder was the birthplace of the late Mayor J. Rayburn Bertrand of Lafayette, who served from 1960–1972 and presided over the near doubling of the municipal population.

Louisiana Highway 113 (LA 113) is a state highway in Louisiana. It spans 54.56 miles and runs from South to north. LA 113 is a mostly rural two lane highway with a maximum speed limit of 55 miles per hour and a minimum of as slow as 25 miles per hour in some sharp curves. The southern terminus is at an intersection with U.S. 190 in Allen Parish and the northern terminus at an intersection with U.S. Route 165 in Rapides Parish.
