Owatonna, Minnesota

Owatonna is a city in Steele County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 25,599 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Steele County. Owatonna is home to the Steele County Fairgrounds, which hosts the Steele County Free Fair in August. Interstate 35 and U.S. Routes 14, and 218 are three of the main arterial routes in the city.

Lake Kohlmeier

Lake Kohlmeier is a large artificial pond in Owatonna, Minnesota. It was created in an abandoned gravel quarry using the natural flooding of springwater after the city caked the bottom with clay. The lake is named after a prominent citizen of the community and is used recreationally for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating activities.

Rice Lake (ghost town), Minnesota

Rice Lake is a ghost town in Dodge and Steele counties in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It lies east of Owatonna, and just north of Rice Lake State Park. The nearest community is the city of Claremont, to the southeast. The Dodge County portion lies in the southwest corner of Ellington Township, while the Steele County portion lies in the southeast corner of Merton Township.
