Cadet is an unincorporated community in Union Township in eastern Washington County, Missouri, United States. It is located on Route 47 about 6 miles northeast of Potosi. The origin of its name is unknown. Cadet was founded in 1857 when the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway was built.

Potosi Correctional Center

Potosi Correctional Center (PCC) is a Missouri Department of Corrections prison located in Breton Township, unincorporated Washington County, Missouri, near Potosi. The facility currently houses 800 capital punishment, maximum security and high-risk male inmates. The facility, which opened in 1989, is a maximum security prison. As of 1989 it had about 200 prisoners.

Old Mines, Missouri

Old Mines (French: La Vieille Mine) is the name of an unincorporated community and surrounding area in southeast Missouri that were settled by French colonists in the early 18th century when the area was part of the Illinois Country of New France. The early settlers came to mine for lead, and their descendants still inhabit the area where, through a combination of geographic and cultural isolation, they maintained a distinctive French culture well into the 20th century.
