Current River (Missouri)

The Current River forms in the southeastern portion of the Ozarks of Missouri and becomes a 7th order stream as it flows southeasterly out of the Ozarks into northeastern Arkansas where it becomes a tributary of the Black River, which is a tributary of the White River, a tributary of the Mississippi River. The Current River is approximately 184 miles long and drains about 2,641 square miles of land mostly in Missouri and a small portion of land in northeastern Arkansas.

Montauk, Missouri

Montauk is an unincorporated community in southwestern Dent County, Missouri, United States. It is on Route 119 on the Current River and is in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Montauk State Park famed for its rainbow trout is here. The community was founded in 1860, and is named after the Montaukett Native Americans that briefly lived in Missouri.

Akers, Missouri

Akers is an unincorporated community in northwestern Shannon County, Missouri, United States. It is located about eighteen miles northwest of Eminence in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Akers houses a campground, general store, and access to the Current River, a popular canoeing location. Since there is no bridge, there is a small ferry that allows vehicles traveling on Highway K to cross the Current River. It formerly had a post office, but now mail is served by Salem.
