Nebraska's 1st congressional district seat encompasses most of the eastern quarter of the state, except for Omaha, and some of its suburbs. It includes the state capital, Lincoln, Fremont, and Norfolk. It is currently held by Jeff Fortenberry, a Republican. George W. Bush received 63% of the vote in this district in 2004.

Branched Oak State Recreation Area

Branched Oak State Recreation Area (Branched Oak Lake) is a Nebraska state recreation area located two and a half miles north of Malcolm, Nebraska in Lancaster County. The lake is the largest of the Salt Valley Lakes with 1,800 acres of water in a 5,595-acre park. The area has several camping facilities, ranging from modern to primitive. There is a shop inside the park area where visitors can buy firewood/bait and also purchase boat rentals.
